Bayswater-Morley were unable to cope with the strength of a determined Fremantle in the final preliminary round of the WACA first-grade pennant competition at Stevens Reserve on Saturday. Bayswater were sent in to bat on the first day and, on a pitch which had some early life, were soon in trouble at 2/15 and from there were unable to build any momentum or significant partnerships and were bowled out for a mediocre total of 168 shortly after tea. Rain played havoc with the penultimate round of WACA First-Grade pennant fixtures on Saturday. Of the eight scheduled matches, four were abandoned for the day with little or no cricket being able to be played. At Hillcrest Reserve Bayswater-Morley, desperate for a win against Rockingham-Mandurah, won the toss and chose to bat first. However, play was curtailed after only 2.2 overs were bowled and was unable to continue until 3pm. On the resumption the Bears were determined to bat adventurously in an attempt to score quick runs and set up the remainder of the day for a result. Write Comment (0 Comments) |

Bayswater-Morley won their WACA First-Grade pennant clash with Joondalup on Saturday, but not without a few anxious moments. The Bears, as expected, declared at their first day stumps total of 7/298 and challenged the visitors to reach the target in a full day of play. Twenty-four year old Joondalup opening batsman Michael Swart anchored the innings in superb fashion and when he was finally dismissed for 134, the total was 7/250, just 49 short of victory. When he went, however, the firepower went with him and the last three wickets fell 16 runs short. Write Comment (0 Comments) |

At stumps the Bears had reached 7/298, a satisfying total considering the score at the tea break [2/142] was more than doubled in the last session. Write Comment (0 Comments) |

Bayswater-Morley has suffered dual defeats in a frustrating week-end of WACA First-Grade District cricket. On Saturday the Bears travelled to Abbett Park to tackle high flyers Scarborough in a vital one-day pennant fixture. When the home team decided to bat first they were rocked by a devastating spell of eight overs by Bayswater fast bowler Kim Lawrence which produced six wickets at a personal cost of 25 runs and with the scoreboard showing 7/40 the innings seemed to be heading for disaster.
