Bayswater-Morley experienced mixed fortune at the weekend as the WACA pennant cricket finals series progressed to the semi-final stage.  Both the Bears Third and Fourth grades were scheduled to play Fremantle and Subiaco-Floreat respectively at Perth's Fletcher Park, but the pitches on both grounds were left uncovered during the mid-week rains and were unfit for play on Saturday.

Play for the day in Fourth grade was abandoned but the Third grade match was deemed fit to start at 3.30 pm.  The track was still very soft and the toss became critical, but Bayswater were duly invited to bat and ended the evening at 5-68.  Sunday saw the innings quickly close at 82, and Fremantle replied by reaching the target with the loss of only three wickets.

On Sunday the fourth-grade match saw Subiaco bat first and declare their innings closed at 7-160 after 50 overs.  Bayswater- because of their superior ladder position - did not need to win but merely preserve wickets in hand and their total of 5-145 at the close was enough to project them into next weekend's Grand Final.  The Bear's best performers were Matt Utley, who took five wickets, and Aaron Nichols who scored 55 not out.

However, the Bayswater Under Fifteen team completed an undefeated season by winning their second successive Premiership in convincingly beating Wanneroo at Richardson Park on Sunday.  Wanneroo compiled a competitive 7-180 in their allotted 60 overs, but with a fine start from openers Aaron Todd [73] and Steven Smith [42] the score quickly moved to 1-143 before 5 wickets fell for only nineteen runs.Philip Adams then steadied the middle order with a solid 32, and with Michael Cooper and Luke Waterhouse undefeated at the end, the target was achieved with 5 overs to spare.

NB.  The 4th Grade Grand Final will be played at Breckler Park, with play starting at 10.30am on Saturday & Sunday.
