The WACA pennant competitions moved into the elimination finals round at the weekend, with Bayswater-Morley featuring in three matches. The Bears Third-Grade, which was the only senior team to reach the final six, did battle with Mount Lawley at Hillcrest Reserve. Batting first on Saturday, Bayswater posted a defendable 247 with the main contributors being Andre Burress with 81 and Daniel Dobson who made a solid 68.
However, it proved to be not enough when the bowling achieved little penetration and Mount Lawley overtook the target with the loss of only four wickets. Meanwhile, both the Bayswater junior teams recorded sound wins in their matches and both progress to the semi-final stage. The Under Seventeen team easily accounted for the more fancied Fremantle in their clash at McGillivary Oval. The young Bears reached 8-254 in their allotted 60 overs with Aaron Todd [91] and Phil Adams both scoring half-centuries. In reply, Fremantle could manage only 9-154 with Rob Guy [4-21] and Sean O'Brien doing the major damage. The Under-Fifteens made 7-161 against the Joondalup Centurions at Hillcrest with Sam Baird the standout with 47. The Centurions could manage only 8-117 in response, due mainly to the fine 4-17 from Luke Waterhouse. The Bears meet Wanneroo in next week's semi-final which will be de-valued somewhat by the loss of three players from Bayswater and a further two from Wanneroo to the State team in the National Schoolboys Championship in Canberra.Only registered users can write comments.
