Bayswater-Morley failed in the attempt to reel in the formidable total of 315 set by Gosnells in their WACA first-grade pennant clash at Sutherlands Park on Saturday. Resuming at 2-33 at the opening of the second day, Bayswater lost the vital wicket of in-form opener Liam Davis for 24 after the addition of only one run. Rhys May and night-watchman Grant Thistle added 42 for the next wicket , but when May badly mistimed a hook shot and was caught for 24 with the score at 4-76, the cause appeared to be lost.
Thistle followed soon after for 27 and Chris Hall for 15, but a feisty innings from teenage wicket-keeper Cameron Robb added some respectability to the scoreboard. Robb batted with determination and aggression and, aided by a last wicket stand of 53 with fellow teen Luke Waterhouse, managed to bring the total to 201 while he was unconquered on 70 at the close. The outstanding Gosnells bowling figures were those of right-arm opener Clay Townsend who finished with 5-80 from 21 overs.
The final 35 overs of the match was utilised by the home team as batting practice and the pursuit of some bonus points. Returning Western Warrior Luke Pomersbach relished the atmosphere by clobbering the inexperienced Bears attack to all parts of the ground in an awesome display of power hitting. He plundered 135 runs from a mere 58 balls in an innings which included 13 fours and 9 sixes. Opener Derek Bland carried his bat to be 72 at the end, while first innings century maker Simon Marshall was unbeaten on 43 in a total of 1-255.
On the alternate Sutherlands ground, Bayswater’s third-grade achieved a meritorious outright win
