Success for Bayswater-Morley in WACA pennant grade cricket this season may be modest so far, but it would appear that better times are not far away.  About ten years ago, a group of dedicated people at Subiaco-Floreat restructured and nurtured the junior teams of the club with extraordinary success, winning many junior titles.  The talent that emerged from this intense commitment translated into three consecutive First-Grade pennants from 2001-2003 and two Club Championships in those years.  A similar group of tireless coaches and administrators at Bayswater-Morley are reaping the benefits of intensive guidance and talent identification in developing a vast wealth of junior talent unprecedented in the Club’s history.

WACA junior pennants over the past three seasons have set the stage for the rapid emergence of the cream of this talent into senior grade teams.  The Bears’ first-grade team so far this season has included five teen-aged players, all of whom have represented their state at junior level. The outstanding example is batsman/wicket-keeper Cameron Robb who, at 18 is averaging 36.5 with the bat and taken 12 catches and effected 3 stumpings. Next week he heads to Tasmania to represent WA in the National Under 19 championships.  Another notable emerging talent is sixteen year-old batsman Philip Adams who last week scored centuries in both the second-grade and Colts matches during the same weekend.

Meanwhile, the weather was not kind during the second day of WACA round 7 matches on Saturday, with all games hampered by overnight rain. First, second, and third grades were all in winning positions but had to settle for draws because of time restrictions, but the second grade had an impressive win.
