Bayswater-Morley visited Willetton on Australia Day for a one-day WACA first-grade pennant match at Burrendah Reserve.  The home side batted first and reveled in the perfect batting conditions and ruthlessly compiled 2-306 from their 50 overs against an earnest but hapless Bears attack.  Openers Vin Chopra [85] and Brett Silvey [80]  in a partnership of 144, setting the stage for rookie Warrior left-hander Matt Johnston to blaze a spectacular, unbeaten 100 from only 75 balls.  Bayswater began the chase well, but with the score at 0-41, lost three wickets for only a further four runs, and the game was effectively over.  Stalwarts Brendan Mills [37] and Chris Hall with an unbeaten 57, at least avoided the indignity of being bowled out and guided the score to 9-174 at the close.

However, Bayswater are faring somewhat better in the two-day fixture against fellow cellar dwellers Rockingham-Mandurah at Stan Twight Reserve which began on Saturday.  Bears acting-captain Mathew Inness sent the home team into bat and and generally did not regret his decision. Inness, with 2-43 from 18 overs, spearheaded a three pronged pace attack which performed with spirit and penetration.  The main destroyers were the brothers Thistle, Michael and Grant, who both bowled with consistent venom and determination.  Grant finished with 3-48 and elder Michael bagged 4-50 in the final total of 180.

Best of the Rockingham batsmen were Brayden Sutton with a brave but fortunate 80, and a typical dour knock of 38 from skipper Joe Sarsero.  In the last sixteen overs of the day Bayswater have carved 86 runs from the target with the loss of only Aaron Todd for 13, with Warrior Liam Davis in cavalier mood compiling 53 from 60 balls. He and Matthew Birrell [13] will resume the Chase together next week
