Bayswater-Morley continued their unbeaten run in WACA Pennant League cricket in 2006 with an emphatic win over local rival Mount Lawley at Hillcrest on Saturday. The match was played under limited overs conditions and Bayswater had first use of the pitch compiling 6-259 from the allotted 50 overs. Openers Chris Hall and Michael Thistle provided the platform with a partnership of 42 before Thistle was caught for 24. Jon McLean then joined Hall to put on 175 for the second wicket with Mclean contributing 101 from 116 balls including 14 crisp boundaries. It was the Englishman's second century of the season in the shorter version of the game. Hall batted through the innings to be unbeaten on 97 at the close, bringing his pennant aggregate to 515 runs for the season at an average of 43. He was hampered by a hamstring strain during the last dozen overs and had to bat with a runner. In reply Mount Lawley were never able to achieve the required run rate and lost wickets at regular intervals without substantial partnerships, and eventually succumbed for 203 in the 48th over. The win puts Bayswater on the cusp of a finals position although they have to win at least two of their remaining three matches to cement their place. The Bears begin a two day contest with lowly placed Wanneroo at Kingsway Reserve next Saturday. The inaugural WACA Statewide 20/20 tournament begins on Sunday with Bayswater drawn to play Mount Lawley at Breckler Park in the first round. Thirty two teams will take part with the semi-finals and final to be played at the WACA ground on the 19th of February
