Round Three - Under 13's and 14's
Under 14’s v Centurions
Sent in to bat, Bayswater were struggling at 2/22 from 12 overs before Jarrad Sims (31) and Alex Di Placido (34) restored order with a 56 run partnership. When they both departed, Captain Louis Ray (46*) and dependable Hudson Delves added a fighting 64 runs before the innings closed at 5 for 159.
Joondalup weathered the opening 8 overs losing one wicket for 17 but what followed was quite extraordinary. Left arm swing bowler, Aaron Evans produced an amazing spell of nine balls in which he destroyed the opposition by snaring 5 wickets without conceding a run. At the completion of his four over spell he had the figures of 5 for 1 and finished the match with 5 for 10 from 8 overs. Aaron was supported by some outstanding fielding from Alex Campbell in slips with two catches – one a left hand reflex catch that defies description - and Jordan Alvaro in the covers.
The opposition battled to add a further 71 runs before Alex Di Placido (8/3/2/13) returned to the attack and broke the partnership and the innings was soon wrapped up giving Bayswater a comfortable 53 run victory.
Under 13’s v Centurions.
Winning the toss and batting, Centurions amassed a formidable 3 for 175 declared against a Bayswater attack that failed to come to grips with the blustery conditions at Iluka. Too often the bowlers lines strayed or they dropped too short and suffered the consequences.
Although the match produced few Bayswater highlights, in a week where his older brothers shone (Aaron scored his maiden first grade century, and Mitchell earned State Under 17’s selection), Cameron Todd was not to be outdone. In scoring an unbeaten 8 runs, the ten year old showed remarkable focus, and a stout defence, to defy the Centurion bowlers for 111 balls and give the innings a degree of respectability. Billy Boyd (11) was the only batsman to reach double figures as the Bayswater innings closed at 8 for 74.
