Round 4 - U/14's and 13's v Subiaco Floreat

Under 14’s

Bayswater’s great fighting spirit covered the loss to injury of quality all rounder, Alex Di Placido and nearly secured an upset victory against the top side.  Batting first, Baysie recovered from 2 for 4 to score a competitive 9 for 146.  Captain Louis Ray, who led the way with an entertaining 75 runs, received great support from a defiant Jarrad Sims (28) and Sam Bower (19).   Two early wickets put Subiaco Floreat on the back foot but despite some excellent bowling and catching they reached the target with just three balls to spare.  Leg spinner, Alex Campbell (8/1/3/24) was outstanding while Louis Ray completed a fine double (8/1/1/20) and Jordan Alvaro conceded only 16 runs from his 6 overs.  Keeper, Jake Wood also had a good match with 3 catches.   This team effort deserved a better result but the players could take considerable satisfaction from their endeavours in an engrossing match.

Under 13’s

Building on their efforts in the previous match, Captain Bailey Gregson (35) and Elliott Laurence (35) showed they enjoyed batting together by combining in a 53 run opening partnership to lay the foundation for a substantial score.   When they parted, Billy Boyd, promoted to bat at number 3 after his earlier promising form, took his opportunity in scoring a stylish 33 runs as the team set up a very competitive 5/141 declared after 40 overs.   If Subiaco Floreat entertained ideas of seriously challenging the total they were quickly put to rest when Elliott Laurence (1/ 8) and Christian Lee (1/18)) bowled the openers.  A brief recovery was snuffed out when Billy Boyd (4/1/2/9) came into the attack, and the other batsmen had no answer to the flight and accuracy of spinners Kobe Canny (8/2/3/13) and Kevin Carlson or the sharp catching and smart fielding of the Baysie players.
