Round 5 v Scarborough
Under 17’s
Sent in, Bayswater’s first four batsmen all made starts with Mitchell Todd (32) and Josh Keys (22) being the best but with their dismissals the middle order imploded losing 4 wickets in rapid succession. Only a tail wag by Brayden Dempster (11) and Jayden Power (10*) helped the side to 127 from 45 overs. Then, just before stumps , a great catch by Rhys Hampson from Peter Baker’s bowling raised a faint hope. However, the bowlers were unable break through on Day Two although all bowling combinations were explored. Eventually, the innings closed at 6 for 232 from 76 overs. While all the bowlers toiled hard and made the batsmen fight for every run, Peter Baker (7/1/3/19) was by far the most threatening. Unfortunately the batsmen had been unable to set a challenging total and the side slipped a place on the ladder.
Under 15’s
The Keys/Lewis show was in full swing against Scarborough in a scintillating second wicket partnership of 305. The opposition bowlers were hammered to all parts of the ground and the fielders run ragged as Bayswater amassed a first innings total of 3 for 362 from 56 overs. Jake Lewis, in back-to-back centuries, scored 154 runs from 158 deliveries. Travis Keys, who was in a “take no prisoners” frame of mind, needed just 124 deliveries in his innings of 148 runs. That was Day one.
Day two continued in much the same vein. Scarborough struggled to 114 from 52 overs. Jake Lewis dominated the early batting, taking 2/28 from his 12 overs while all the bowlers were miserly with Chad Prichard and Ryan Kovalevs picking up a wicket each. Oh. And Travis Keys rested the keeper’s gloves to treat the opposition batsmen in much the same manner as he did their bowlers: 6 overs, 1 maiden, 5 wickets for 12 runs.
