Round 7 v Mt Lawley

Under 15’s

Invited to bat, Mt Lawley were in trouble struggling to 5 for 60 against the pace attack of Jake Lewis (3/23), Hershelle Classen (1/32), and Dan Ogilvie (1/11).  However, the middle order and tail dug in and the innings finally closed at a respectable 7 for 188.

Bayswater replied with 4 for 240 against an attack that was unable to curb Jake Lewis. He batted superbly through the innings to end unbeaten on 124.  Alex Di Placido (44), who has thrived on the challenge of being promoted from the U/14’s, was a valuable ally.  Although coach Wim Van Houwelingen is still unavailable due to injury his support team of Russ Lewis, Mike Prichard, and John Keys are proving able and enthusiastic deputies.

Under 17’s

Mt Lawley’s decision to bat produced a workmanlike total of 7 for 171 at the end of their sixty overs against a tight Bayswater attack.  Leg spinner, Jake Mulder returned the best figures with 2 for 24 from his 11 overs.  The other bowlers were economical with Nick Van Der Westhuizen (5/2/1/8) and Cody Wilson (8/3/0/9) being notably miserable at conceding runs.  When Bayswater 's innings closed at 6 for 205, it was opener Tim Smithies who had anchored the side with a fine, unbeaten 72.  Coming to the wicket at 2 for 32, Matt Voorn (47 from 57 balls) produced a virtuoso knock before Smithies was joined by all rounder Cody Wilson who showed no mercy to the bowlers scoring 49* from only 51 balls.   This put the team less than two points out of the six setting up a crucial match when they host 8th placed Melville in round 8.
